Ticket Refunds Explained: Cancelled, Postponed and Rescheduled Events

What happens to your ticket when an event is cancelled or moved, and how long a refund takes to reach you.

Nobody buys a ticket expecting to ask for the money back. Still, events get cancelled, artists fall ill and dates move. Knowing how refunds work before you need one saves a lot of stress.

The general rule

Ticket sales are final, and tickets are non-refundable except where the law says otherwise. That is standard across live entertainment, because a seat sold to you cannot be sold to anyone else. Refund terms beyond that are set by the organizer of each event, so it is worth reading them before you pay.

If an event is cancelled

When an event is cancelled, ticket holders are refunded automatically. You do not need to send a request. The refund goes back the same way you paid.

If an event is postponed or rescheduled

When a date changes, refunds and exchanges follow the organizer's policy for that event. In many cases your ticket stays valid for the new date and you do not have to do anything. If you cannot make the new date, check the organizer's announcement and contact customer service to see what your options are.

How long does a refund take?

It depends on how you paid:

  • Card payments are returned to the original card and usually take 5 to 10 business days to appear on your statement
  • Gift card balance is returned to the gift card right away

The delay on card refunds comes from the banks, not from the ticketing platform, so the money can be on its way even when you cannot see it yet.

How to check the status

Open your order in your account. A refunded ticket is marked as refunded, and the invoice shows the refund date. If more than ten business days have passed and nothing has arrived, check with your bank first and then contact our support team with your order details.

How to avoid needing a refund

Most refund requests are not about cancelled events at all. They come from small mistakes at checkout:

  • Check the date and city before you pay
  • Make sure everyone in your group is free that day
  • Confirm the section and number of tickets
  • Read the event's own rules, such as age limits
