QR Code Tickets Explained: How Mobile Entry Works

What a QR code ticket is, how it is checked at the door and what to do so that entry takes seconds.

Paper tickets get lost, forgotten on the kitchen table and soaked in the rain. A QR code ticket lives on your phone, arrives the moment you pay and takes a second to check at the door. If you have never used one before, here is how it works.

What is a QR code ticket?

A QR code ticket is a digital ticket with a unique square code. The code does not contain your personal details. It is simply a reference that the venue's scanner looks up to confirm that the ticket is real, that it belongs to this event and that it has not been used already.

How entry works at the door

The process is short:

  • You open the ticket in your TicketIgnite account
  • Staff scan the QR code with their scanner
  • The system confirms the ticket and marks it as used
  • You walk in

Every ticket has its own code. If you bought four tickets, there are four codes, one for each person.

Why you should never share a screenshot

Each QR code can be scanned only once. If a copy of your code reaches someone else and they arrive before you, their scan is accepted and yours is refused. Posting a ticket photo on social media before the event is the most common way this happens. Share the excitement, not the code.

Get ready before you leave home

A few small habits make entry painless:

  • Log in to your account and open your tickets before you leave
  • Charge your phone, or bring a power bank for long events
  • Turn your screen brightness up when you reach the scanner
  • Give each person in your group their own ticket to show

Mobile signal near big venues can be weak when thousands of people arrive at once, so open your tickets while you still have a good connection.

Tickets and invoices are not the same thing

After a purchase you also receive an invoice for your order. The invoice is a payment record and will not get you in. The entry QR code is on each ticket in your account, and that is what staff need to see.

What organizers get out of it

For organizers, QR tickets mean faster queues, no duplicate tickets and a live count of who has arrived. On TicketIgnite, the organizer's team scans tickets and manages check-in from the business panel, so the door list is always up to date.

Digital tickets are simple once you have used one. Keep the code private, keep your phone charged and you will be inside before the support act starts.
